INTERESTED IN MUSIC LESSONS?

Private lessons and Little Boppers classes are available through my teaching locations in Olympia and Puyallup, Washington.

Whether you’re looking for a child’s first introduction to music, private woodwind instruction, school-band support, or an adult opportunity to finally pick up the instrument you’ve always wanted to play, I’d be happy to help you get started.

Contact me about music lessons, availability, or The Little Boppers.

MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE!

I believe music should be accessible to anyone who feels called to make it.

A student’s opportunity to learn should not be limited by financial circumstance. If the cost of lessons is a concern, please reach out. Depending on the situation, I may be able to offer a reduced rate or scholarship support.

Music can build confidence, discipline, creativity, connection, and joy. Those experiences matter, and I want to do what I can to help make them available to more students.

If you or your child wants to learn, let’s have the conversation.

MY APPROACH TO TEACHING

Every student learns differently.

Some students respond to reading music. Some need to hear it. Some need to play it repeatedly until their fingers understand it before their brain does.

My job is to figure out how each student learns and build from there.

Lessons combine the fundamentals required to become a solid musician with music the student actually wants to play.

We work on:

  • Tone and sound production

  • Embouchure

  • Breath support

  • Rhythm

  • Music reading

  • Scales and technique

  • Ear training

  • Phrasing and expression

  • Ensemble skills

  • Improvisation

  • Practice techniques

  • Musical confidence

I want students to understand why something works, not simply memorize which button to push.

We may use a traditional method book one minute, then work on a jazz standard, movie theme, pop song, musical theatre piece, or improvisation exercise the next.

The fundamentals stay serious.

The experience doesn’t have to.

Making music since I was 8!

More than five decades later, I'm still playing, still performing, still learning, and now I get to pass all of it on to the next generation.

I teach private lessons through Music 1st in Olympia, and through Briar Thomas Conservatory and Ted Brown Music in Puyallup. I also offer small group lessons and in-home lessons.

My students range from first-timers who've never held an instrument to experienced players who want to sharpen their technique, musicianship, and confidence. Maybe you're getting ready for school band. Maybe you're preparing for an audition. Maybe you just want to sound better than you did last month. Whatever the reason, my goal is the same:

Give every student a strong musical launch pad, and help them discover how much fun making music can be.
