BUDDY’S BEAT
Buddy’s Beat is a lighter-side local news series highlighting the people, places, businesses, events, and odd little civic moments that give a community its personality. Shot on iPhone and produced as a one-man crew, the series blends field reporting, humor, curiosity, and human-interest storytelling with a scrappy, run-and-gun production style.
For each piece, I handle the full creative and production pipeline: story development, interviewing, shooting, directing, writing, editing, sound, music, graphics, and final delivery. The tone is warm, funny, and community-forward, bringing a little late-night energy to local journalism while still respecting the story and the people at the center of it.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony in Olympia, Washington, celebrating the opening of Red Lantern Asian Fusion and Kawaii Donut House. The piece captures the excitement of the event, the personalities behind the businesses, and the local officials and community members who came out to welcome two new neighborhood spots. This report marked my debut for The JOLT News and the digital newspaper’s first-ever video report.
